GVMC plans for water in summer to provide sufficient water to the city , the (GVMC) has decided to spend an amount of Rs 2.75 crore as a part of their summer plan .
During the address of , Civic commissioner M Hari Narayanan to media at GVMC office on Tuesday , he said that ” 170 new bore-well will be constructed across the city along with the repairing of all the exciting hand-pumps and pip lines , In order to provide water supply to the tail-end points of the city the GVMC will be hiring 22 additional tankers that will nearly make 115 trips to the areas.”
Narayana also appealed to the people to practice Rainwater Harvesting in their residences. “We are making sure that every house has a fully-functional rainwater harvesting system. Due to the extended dry spell during the northeast monsoon, the groundwater levels have decreased in the city. There are about 7,935 borewells in the city. Repair of the existing hand pumps would be undertaken and spare parts for these will be bought for Rs 45 lakh,” he further said…In the first phase GVMC has planned to construct disable-friendly toilet in 60 schools across the city and renovate the water bodies present in the newly merged areas .

- Turn off the tap when you brush your teeth – this can save 2 liters of water per minute.
2.Take a shorter shower (or) fill water in bucket and take bath –Showers can use anything between 6 and 45 litres per minute where as bucket will use only 8 liters.
3.Fix a dripping tap – A dripping tap can waste 15 litres of water a day, or 5,500 litres of water a year.
4.Water your garden with a watering can – This will save easily about 35 liters of water.
5.Install rainwater tanks – This will help in rain water harvesting.
