Visakhapatnam district collector Praveen Kumar has expressed his anger with medical officers and health workers at a review meeting held at conference hall. While reviewing quarterly about maternal deaths in both plain and agency areas of Vizag district he lambasted the working attitude and culture of Accredited Social Health Assistants in the district.
I have noticed 16 maternal deaths in this quarter of February, March and April months as against previous quarter figure of 12 deaths’ said collector Praveen Kumar. Concerned medical officer, ANM and Asha workers should be inquired and necessary disciplinary action will be initiated against them, he added.
We are going to train ANMs in the respective primary health centers regarding the checking procedures for BP, Hemoglobin and precautions to be taken in High Risk cases’ said district medical and health officer Dr Ramesh while speaking on the occasion. After Nava Nirmana Deeksha, doctors also will be given training in these issues, he added.
Our staff members are unable to take pregnant woman to nearest hospital due to lack of proper roads and transport facilities in agency area’ said DCHS Dr Nayak.
