Interactive Session with Padma Shri Romulus Whitaker, Renowned Indian Herpetologist and Wildlife Conservationist on 25th June, 2018 was organised in the Indira Gandhi Zoological Park, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh Forest Department in coordination with Madras Crocodile Bank Trust, Chennai and Eastern Ghats Wildlife Society, Visakhapatnam.

Rahul Pandey, IFS., Chief Conservator of Forests, Visakhapatnam;  Yesoda Bai, R., IFS, Curator, IGZP, Visakhapatnam;  C. Selvam, IFS., Divisional Forest Officer, Visakhapatnam; K.L.N.Murthy, Biologist, Eastern Ghats Wildlife Society, Visakhapatnam along with 200 School Children from Sri Prakash Vidyaniketan and Forest Department officials and staff have participated in the interactive sessoin.

Padma Shri Romulus Whitaker emphasised on the importance of knowing the common venomous snakes in the country like common Cobra, Common Krait, Saw-scaled Viper and Russell’s viper and the Do’s & Don’ts in case of a snake bite incidence. He has also explained various facts related to snakes which are not very well known in the rural India and the need to create awareness among villagers for not killing snakes but to capture and release them with the help of Forest department officials and certified snake catchers.
