One of the flagship programmes of the State government in increasing the green cover in the State, Vanam–Manam is being initiated by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandra Babu Naidu. He along with his wife and grandson and son of Information Technology Minister Lokesh, Devansh has planted saplings at IIIT campus, Nuziveedu and kick started this year’s program. The motto of the program is to create 50 % greenery in the state whereas this figure stands at 29 % at present.
‘We can achieve the target of 50 % greenery if each one of us plants a sapling’ said Roads and Buildings Minister Chintakayala Ayyanna Patrudu. Students of all schools and colleges must be included in central government scheme National Green Carpet for maintaining ecological balance. Green National High Way to the length of 480 kilo meters will be laid from Rajahmundry – Rampachodavaram- Lambasingi – Paderu – Araku – Vizianagaranm. Vizagites were blessed with 17,847 acres of forest area in the midst of the city at Kambala Konda which is a rare thing in India, he added.
‘District administration has chalked out this program as part of Mission Haritandhra Pradesh’ said collector Praveen Kumar. Vana Mahotsavam will be celebrated for three months from today onwards across the district. Stake holders, public, youth organizations, students, farmers and social activists will participate in the program, he added.
Zilla parishat chair person Lalam Bhavani, HRD Minister Ganta Srinivas Rao and joint collector G Srijana have administered the oath of protecting planted saplings by the students.
District forest officers Dr Jyothi, Selvam, Indira Gandhi Zoo curator Yasoda Bai, DWAMA PD Kalyan Chakravarthy, chief panchayat officer Rama Sastry and students at large took part in the program.
Students have performed to various patriotic songs on the dais and entertained the gathering with their dance.
