Visakhapatnam joint collector G Srijana has convened a meeting under her chairpersonship at her chambers for controlling illegal transporting of animals under in cruel ways. District forest officer O C Selvam, animal husbandry department joint director Koteswar Rao, marketing assistant director Kaleswar Rao, GVMC chief medical officer Dr A Hemanth Kumar, veterinary officer Dr L K Sudhakar, zilla parishat CEO Ramana Murthy, VSPCA President Pradeep Kumarnath, members of Govardhana Giri Trust, police officers and representatives of NGOs took part in the meeting.
‘We are getting reports that animals are being transported in pathetic conditions even without providing water to them to abattoirs and in packed condition literally one on other one’ said G Srijana. Transport officials should check those vehicles engaged in animal transport and ask for official papers and seize such vehicle that are transporting vehicles from one place to other. Police should also see that animals are not tied beside roads because both traffic and sanitation conditions will be worsened with this. Veterinary officials should regularly check all cow protection centers in the district and take census of cows and calves along with their health condition. Simhachalam Cow Shed officials should treat both Domestic and Jersey calves with same affection on humanitarian grounds. Sheds should be provided with water facility at animal markets to facilitate farmers for selling their cattle at market places, she added.
