World Tourism Day is being celebrated across the world since 1980 on September 27th. This year it was celebrated at Vizag Beach Road with a theme of Tourism -Digital Transformation. HRD Minister Ganta Srinivas Rao has inaugurated the celebrations after lighting the lamp. Graduates’ MLC PVN Madhav, Visakhapatnam collector Praveen Kumar, Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Regional Development Authority Commissioner P Basanth Kumar, tourism regional director Rahda Krishna Murthy, district tourism officer Purnima Devi and others took part in the program. Tourism department has conducted several competitions on tourism development in the schools and prizes were distributed on the dais to the winners from the hands of Ganta Srinivas Rao.

‘We are providing and improving the existing facilities in various tourist spots across the state to attract more tourists’ said Ganta Srinivas Rao. Vizag district received 1.3 crores of tourists in 2016-17 and the figure was improved to 2.17 crores in 2017-18. This year so far we have received 1.30 crores of tourists. I personally thank everyone for these figures, he added.

‘We are celebrating this year with a theme of ‘Tourism Digital Transformation’ said Praveen Kumar. We are spending crores of rupees for making Vizag as the tourist destination. We are taking several measures for developing religious, heritage and rural tourisms in the district, he added.

Audience was enthralled by the dancers who performed Dhimsa, Kommu, Tappeta Gullu and other dance forms and classical dances.

Prizes were distributed among the best tour operators who have rendered their services in getting more tourists to the district.
