District revenue officer Chandrasekhar Reddy has convened a meeting with the heads and representatives of several educational institutions in Visakhapatnam district at collector conference hall. As per rules and regulations it is the duty of institutional heads to see that every student who has obtained 18 years of age must become the voter of this nation.
‘As per the census we are all aware about having 1,81,033 youths in the district but as per summary revisions 2019 only 14,554 have become the voters’ said Chandrasekhar. Still we have to include 1,66,479 students in the electoral rolls and for that all students who crossed 18 years must be enrolled without fail. For this each college or educational institute should appoint one nodal officer in the campus. They should enroll the student who is going to obtain 18 years by January 2019. For expediting the process, SVEEP (systematic voter’s education and electoral participation) program must be campaigned through all sorts of media. Three programs must be organized in October and for banners must be arranged for completing the task, he added.
‘We have published one draft on September 1st and any one can express their objections by this month end’ said electoral rolls officer while speaking on the occasion. We will resolve all issued by November 30th and final publication of electoral rolls will be on April 1st of 2019, he added.
‘Teachers’ MLC electoral roll registration will begin on November 6th and list will be published on January 1st of 2019’ said Registration Officer (DRO). We will receive claims and objections in this regard up to January 31st and will be resolved by February 15th. Final publication of electoral rolls will be done on February 20th, he added.
