The 5 days Training program on “Earthquake Risk Mitigation and Management” organized by National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), Ministry of Home Affairs, in Collaboration with Department of Civil Engineering, Andhra University concluded today. Prof. K. Niranjan, Registrar, Andhra University was the chief guest of valedictory function.  Speaking on the occasion, Chief Guest of function, Prof. K. Niranjan uttered that as seismic zones keep on changing and earthquake occurrence cannot be ruled out at any place and hence, preparedness for tackling the Earthquake risk in civil engineering constructions. Prof. C.N.V. Satyanarayana Reddy, Department of Civil Engineering, Andhra University and Dr Amir Khan, Head, CBRN & Cyber Security Division, NIDM are the program coordinators of the event.

Prof. P. Srinivasa Rao, I/c Principal, A.U. College of Engineering informed the delegates that the expertise available in civil engineering department shall be properly utilized in mitigating risks associated with disasters.  Prof. Chandan Ghosh, Head, Resilient Infrastructure and Guest of Honor informed that NIDM will consider signing MoU with Andhra university to collaborate in disaster mitigation and management and would like to utilize the expertise of the Civil Engineering Department in various activities of NIDM.

Prof. T.V. Praveen, In- charge, Head of Civil Engineering, Andhra University in his address, expressed thanks to NIDM for collaborating with the  department for organizing the training program.

Prof. C.N.V. Satyanarayana Reddy, Coordinator of the programme informed that the training programme had 123 participants comprising of 4 International Participants from Nepal Army, 38 Engineers from APCRDA, VMRDA, R&B, Panchyat Raj, Irrigation, APMSIDC, Visakhapatnam Port Trust, Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, DGNP, MES, GVMC, 20 faculty members from Engineering colleges of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, 12 Research scholars and 50 Post graduate students.
