With the rise in the rates of accidents in the city in the recent months, the Vizag Traffic Police are not in the mood to spare anyone, not even their peers in the police department! In what is seen as a welcome move by the citizens, more than 53 policemen have been booked for not wearing helmets. While talking to The Hindu, M. Ramesh Kumar, the Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) said, “None will be spared for violating the norms as everyone is equal before the law. Be it commoners or men in uniform, cases will be registered on the spot if they are found violating the law.” This news comes in the wake of growing resentment of citizens of Vizag towards policemen not following rules meant for everyone, with some people even taking to social media to post pictures of rule-violating policemen. It must be noted that along with penalizing and fining offenders, the Traffic police have been using all their wits to come up with original measures for raising awareness about road safety.
