The Navy Day is celebrated today with much gusto all across India with many programs and events organized by the Indian Navy designed to entertain and educate the public.
On 4th of December 1971, as a part of ‘Operation Trident’, the Indian Navy successfully attacked the naval bases of Karachi during the Indo-Pak war of 1971, thereby, playing a tremendous role in the Indian victory. So, the Navy Day is observed on the 4th of December for honouring the Indian Navy for its continuous and tireless efforts in keeping our waters and borders safe and to commemorate Indian Navy’s strength and commitment.
Being the home-ground for the Eastern Naval Command (ENC), the Navy Day is quite a special day for us Vizagites! Every year, the ENC organizes a host of programs to bond with the public. It had kick-started this year’s Navy Day celebrations over 2 months ago with blood donation camps, medical camps, organ donation seminars, school children’s visits to ships, Naval band performances, Vizag Navy Marathon, etc..
However, the grand finale of the celebrations is saved for the D-Day i.e., today with a Naval Operational Display by the Eastern Naval Command on RK Beach road. Through this show, the ENC will exhibit its best warships, technology, maneuvers, capabilities and demonstrate the activities it does to the common people. An aircraft fleet will fly across the RK Beach as a part of the show. Wishes have been pouring in for the Indian Navy from the President Ram Nath Kovind, PM Narendra Modi, Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu among others, thanking it for its services.
