Visakhapatnam International Airport

Civil Aviation Minister rubbishes rumours of closing down of Vizag International Airport after operations start at Bhogapuram Airport. Already informed the decision to the Andhra Pradesh Airport Development Corporation Ltd (APADCL).

Amid growing rumours of shutting down of Visakhapatnam International Airport after Bhogapuram Airport in Vizianagaram district starts operations, denizens have started to protest the closing of their city’s airport.

Responding to a question about the issue raised in the Rajya Sabha by YSRCP MP V. Vijay Sai Reddy, the Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha said, “It will remain operational even after inauguration of the facility at Bhogapuram.” Elaborating on it more, he said that the heavy investment made on the Visakhapatnam International Airport and cost implications make shutting down the airport nonviable. He has said that a Standing Committee on Greenfield Airports informed the Andhra Pradesh Airport Development Corporation Ltd (APADCL), as the Bhogapuram International Airport Corporation Limited is now called, of its decision to not shut down the Visakhapatnam International Airport even after the Bhogaapuram airport starts services.
