Vizag port to get ₹80 crore cruise terminal. Move likely to boost international tourism
Hello Vizagites! You must have seen a number of Cruise ships on TV or in Bollywood movies such as Dil Dhadakne Do or our very own Tollywood movie Ravoyi Chandamama. But if you had been to Vizag port on Thursday morning, you could have seen the Silver Discoverer, the first international cruise liner to make a day halt at Vizag.
But don’t worry! Cruise ships are soon going to be a common sight around the port. According to the Union Shipping Secretary Mr. Gopal Krishna, who was here to welcome the Silver Discoverer, the Visakhpatnam Port Trust is soon going to get a cruise terminal!
Seeing the city’s potential of becoming a cruise destination such as having a vibrant culture, heritage sites and beautiful spots, the Centre has decided to build the 80 crore cruise terminal here.
The move is likely to bring high-end international tourists to the city and will drive growth and increase jobs!
Speaking on the developments VPT Chairman M.T. Krishna Babu, who was also present on the occasion, said, “The State government is keen on promoting tourism and improving infrastructure . A modern, AC cruise terminal would be built in the city, for which the designs have been finalised. Once the construction begins, it will take 18 months to complete the project. The Union Shipping Ministry has cleared the proposal and the Union Tourism Ministry is financing the project.”
